Whether you are young or old, tall or short, and no matter how smart you are at some point in your life I am sure that you have been hurt or sick and had to take a trip to the hospital or seek other medical attention. One thing that I am sure you have noticed though is the fact that no matter where you sought medical help a nurse was somewhere nearby. Today we will learn what a nurse does, who can be a nurse, and why this is such a honorable and rewarding field. The need for nurses has never been greater because people have never been sicker. So what do nurses do really? Well nurses are care givers. When someone gets hurt it is their job to start helping the doctors get the person ready for treatment. This involves also getting the persons medical chart together containing information that could save your life. These would be things like current medication, blood pressure, pulse, and temperatures. That means that there is a lot of hands on work involved. This also means that a nurse has to be quick to do these things because your life could hang in the balance. They do other things as well but that is a general idea of their jobs.
Many people associate women with being nurses though that is not always the case. In fact anyone of any gender male or female can be a nurse. Women are typically viewed as nurses because there are more of them. They are also viewed as being more caring and kind when it comes to care giving.
So no matter what your gender it is possible for you to become a nurse. Being a nurse is one of the most rewarding jobs that there is. You truly get to help people on a day to day basis. Also your job is never dull. PAtients change and so do the symptoms and conditions. So be a nurse.
